A strengths-based, ACT-informed wellbeing tool for children. Rate 8 life areas, explore what matters, identify one small step. Designed for use in session or at home — the child leads, you listen.
The goal is not numbers — the goal is awesome conversations.
My Life Islands opens up meaningful conversations about what matters most to a child — helping them move toward the life they want, not just away from problems. Informed by Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), a well-evidenced psychological approach that focuses on values, meaning, and committed action, it is strengths-based and designed to be used collaboratively. The child leads. You are there to listen, not fix.
Each island represents a different area of the child's life, rated 1–5. Low scores are not red flags — they are conversation starters. The child chooses which islands to explore.
Home life, relationships, belonging
Friendships, social connection, spending time together
Learning, achievement, fitting in, getting on in class

Life Islands was designed to be used by clinicians, therapists, school counsellors, and SENCOs in session — and by parents and carers at home as a gentle check-in tool. It works equally well as a one-off conversation starter or as a repeated measure to track change over time. Suitable for ages 7–14; can also be used with older young people in clinical and therapeutic settings where the child-friendly format is appropriate.
